This past Saturday, I had the honor of screening the trailer for my documentary film, “Shielded Brutality,” at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition’s community forum. The weekly community forum is broadcast nationally and internationally. I can’t thank the Reverend Jesse Jackson and his organization enough for the opportunity.
The screening was conducted in part because issues of police brutality and police accountability have taken center stage in Chicago recently, and also because Rainbow/PUSH and Rev. Jackson have long struggled for justice in urban policing both locally and nationally. Before the video screened civil rights attorney Flint Taylor, who has been one of the primary litigators regarding the Burge Scandal for two decades, gave a brief but rousing overview of the Burge history and the failures of the Daley administration to to seek justice in the matter. Following the screening, Reverend Jackson continued the weekly forum and spoke at length about many issues including police brutality, gun control, and criminal justice reform (including an extended panel of individuals involved in the civil rights tragedy of the Jena Six.)
Below are some pictures - video clips will be added soon.
